We are delighted to introduce you to art-Kamilari 2023.
This is our 6th year of spreading art amongst the village.
This year there are 13 artists showcasing their interpretation of life and living in South Crete.
The Idea of creating art and creating a dialogue between different cultures and ways of living – and how we all perceive life – is still a challenge and by daring to encounter opposing life styles creates friction, and friction creates warmth. The warmth of a great place to live. To have chosen this lovely place on the island to spend a vacation or to settle down is what we all have in common.
We see more artists feeling encouraged to exhibit their artworks in Kamilari, both in THE KAMILARI PALMHOUSE as well as in THE FABRIKA (the Aristeidogianni Oil Mill Museum) and in the vicinity, making Kamilari and the Messara widely known as a cultural centre in South Crete.
More houseowners are appreciating and embracing art, showing great and immaculate taste by decorating their homes with the works of local artists. Renting a picture by a local artist for the season is also a way of decorating the many villas and rentals in the area.
Artisans also exhibit their creative skills at the handicraft markets, which are an important part of the cultural life of the Messara.
We would like to express our gratitude towards the Cultural Committee of Kamilari with Pater Michalis Roussakis for their cooperation with the use of the Aristeidogiannis Oil Mill Museum, aka as The Kamilari Fabrika and the venue of the Cultural Association, we would like to thank Charidimos Manoussakis for the steady encouragement and for his great love for our village.
